Luxardo , based in Torreglia in the Veneto region of Italy, is a leader in the liqueur industry, with products distributed worldwide. Its flagship liqueur, Luxardo Maraschino, is made from marasca cherries and is an ingredient in numerous classic cocktails. See Aviation Cocktail; Last Word; and maraschino. A second product line includes confectionary liqueurs, maraschino cherries, jams, and fruit syrups. Girolamo Luxardo of Genoa, Italy, established the company in 1821 in Dalmatia (part of Croatia), which was then part of the Austrian Empire. Its facilities were heavily damaged during World War II, and the company moved to its present location in 1947.
